100 Tibetan Buddhist monks detained after protests in China’s Sichuan Province

RELIGIONS NEWS AGENCY (REDNA) – Christian Solidarity Worldwide says the Chinese government has reportedly detained more than 1,000 Tibetans amid protests over a dam project that would force two villages to relocate and destroy six Buddhist monasteries in southwestern China’s Sichuan Province.

Telegraph reported those detained include more than 100 Buddhist monks from monasteries in Yena and Wonto, which date back to the 13th century.

According to the reports on stories of the detainees they are being deprived of food and violently beaten by police.
