Muslims in Teesside, England gather in Middlesbrough to protest Quran burnings

RELIGIOUS NEWS AGENCY (REDNA) – Hundreds of Teesside Muslims gathered in Middlesbrough to protest Quran burnings overseas.

Gazette live reported the protesters turned out to the Jamia Masjid Al-Madina mosque, on Waterloo Road, on Monday evening, in peaceful solidarity following the Quran burnings in Sweden and Denmark.

During the meeting in Middlesbrough speakers raised their concerns.

Iraq and other Muslim-majority countries have condemned the burning of a Quran on Monday by a group called “Danish Patriots” outside the Iraqi embassy in Copenhagen. Nearly 1,000 demonstrators in Baghdad are said to have tried to reach the Danish embassy after that incident.

Last week, crowds set fire to Sweden’s embassy in Baghdad after the planned burning of a Quran in Stockholm.

The Teesside event also saw support from British local politicians.
