Muslim candidates` future in US elections, bright

RELIGIONS NEWS AGENCY(REDNA)- Some Muslim organizers in the US expect a bright future for Muslim candidates in the country although there is no Muslim candidate in public office at the level from the latest US midterms.

They taking the prospect of political leaders in the US in long-term into the account expect a bright future for the Muslim faces.

This comes as despite the latest US midterm, there were some Muslim winners in the previous elections at the at the national level as well as small but steady gains at the state and local levels.

Executive director at Emgage-Action, a Muslim advocacy group, told The New Arab a lot of Muslim figures are running for office at lower levels.

He said:”we are seeing more and more Muslims winning at the state level. That is how it really all started.”

According to a group that trains Muslims to run for public office named Jetpact there were around 150 Muslim candidates on a general election ballot from whom 90 were winners.

Numbers of Muslim state lawmakers has also increased and this election cycle has seen 16 additional Muslim state lawmakers who are going to join nearly 30 who are currently in office. Many of these 16 were the first in their state, including states and districts without large Muslim communities, a sign of successful cross-community campaigning.

It is expected that the number of Muslim faces in the public office increases sharply in 10 years.
