Muslims` mosque in the UK active in Islamic teaching and charity

RELIGIONS NEWS AGENCY (REDNA) – Some Muslim associated with the Ahmadiyya Muslim group cleaned the streets in Esher and Walton in England after the night of new year celebrations.

“Surrey” reported young Muslims woke up early on New Year’s Day to help clean up some of Surrey’s streets following the previous night’s celebrations as Brits welcomed in 2023.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim group united to clean the streets in their community.

They arrived at 6am at the Baitul Futul mosque in Morden for the first prayers of the day then donned hi-vis jackets and grabbed rubbish bags to transform the streets in their community.

Other Muslim groups also got involved in Wellington, Tolworth Broadway, Borden, Walton and Esher.

Mahmood Rafiq, head of external affairs at Baitul Futuh Mosque, said: “The most important thing is as well as cleaning streets for our community it’s also important for our youth to start the New Year with prayer and a good deed. It’s not only about us but the community we live in.”

Some items collected included broken glass, cans, food packaging, and plastic waste.

Mahmood also mentioned that charity is a big part of the Muslim way of life and street cleaning also encourages young people to attend prayers in the morning.

“The streets were not as messy this time as in previous years,” he said. “I think as more bins have been put on streets and as people have become more environmentally aware, less rubbish is being thrown on the streets.”

Other projects available for the community at the Baitul Futuh mosque include: heated rooms, a foodbank, youth sessions and Islamic teaching for young people.
