Islamic Relief Worldwide founder awarded the Daniel Phelan Award in Britain

RELIGIOUS NEWS AGENCY (REDNA) – Hany El-Banna OBE, the co-founder of Islamic Relief Worldwide, has been awarded the Daniel Phelan Award for Outstanding Achievement.

His 40 years in  humanitarian relief work began as a part time concern while he was an NHS doctor, but he left medicine to build Islamic Relief Worldwide into the world’s biggest western Muslim aid and development agency.

Islamic Relief Worldwide is a faith-inspired humanitarian and development agency which is working to support and empower the world’s most vulnerable people.

Founded in the United Kingdom in 1984, Islamic Relief has international headquarters in Birmingham and a network of national offices, affiliated partners, registered branches and country offices spread over more than 40 countries.

It has 450 staff, and is one of the 30 biggest UK charities by income.
