History`s memory never forget Imam Khomeini as an outstanding figure

RELIGIOUS NEWS AGENCY (REDNA) – “Imam Khomeini as an outstanding figure cannot be erased from the history`s memory.” said leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei

The Leader made the remark in an address to a ceremony held Sunday morning to mark the 34th anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s demise.

It was organized, Iqna reported, at the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tehran.

Ayatollah Khamenei added that Imam Khomeini cannot be removed from history nor can he be distorted.

He said Imam Khomeini was a comprehensive figure who was outstanding not only in religious sciences, in Fihq, in philosophy, in mysticism, in faith, in Taqwa (God-fearing), and in having a strong character, but also in rising up for the sake of God, in revolutionary politics, and in creating a development in human system.

The Leader added that Imam Khomeini made three great, historical achievements, three major developments at the level of Iran, Islamic Ummah and world.

The development at the level of Iran was leading the Islamic Revolution to victory, a revolution that toppled a monarchy and replaced it with democracy, Ayatollah Khamenei stated.

The second one was that Imam Khomeini gave rise to the Islamic awakening, via which the Muslim world’s period of passivity and inaction came to an end, the Leader went on to say.

He said that compared to the era before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the Muslims Ummah is today more active, prepared and dynamic.

Ayatollah Khamenei added that the third development brought about by Imam Khomeini (RA) was at the world level and that was reviving spirituality globally even in non-Muslim countries.

He said spirituality had been suppressed by materialistic and anti-spiritual policies and moves but Imam Khomeini’s movement revived spirituality in the world.

These three developments were unprecedented and they may remain unique in the future as well, he said.

The Leader further underlined that what enabled Imam Khomeini to do these and make such great achievements at the level of the country, the Muslim Ummah and the world was faith and hope.

Grand Ayatollah Seyed Rouhollah Mousavi Khomeini, better known as Imam Khomeini, passed away on June 3, 1989 at the age of 87.

As an anti-imperialist icon, he devoted his life to standing up to Iran’s former Pahlavi monarchy, a key ally of the United States, and eventually paved the way for the regime’s downfall in the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

He spent many years in exile in Iraq, Turkey and France, from where he led a swelling grassroots movement, which ultimately put an end to millennia of monarchical rule in Iran.

He came back home on February 1, 1979 after the Shah fled the country amid angry popular demonstrations. The Pahlavi regime fully collapsed 10 days later on February 11.

The mourning ceremonies for Imam Khomeini coincide with the anniversary of June 5, 1963 protests, which are remembered as a prelude to the revolution’s victory. The protests broke out after Imam Khomeini was arrested for delivering a historic speech in the holy city of Qom, where he lambasted the “capitulation law” granting immunity to Americans on Iranian soil.

Every year on the occasion, a commemoration ceremony is held at Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum in southern Tehran, with large crowds of mourners attending. Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei traditionally addresses the annual event.
